On to one of my favorite topics to talk and write about….FOOD. Food in freakin’ Budapest. I strolled to the central market hall and perused the place for awhile. It was quite the food photography spot because it is HUGE but doesn’t have heat so if you go in the winter, be prepared to be a little chilly and pull out the gloves.
Hungarians love their meat. Beef, pork, lamb, chicken. They also adore goose liver and I regret not buying a tin or two to take home now.
Sampled a shot of Hungary’s national..”liquor” called Unicum. They call it medicine because you take it when you’re feeling sick (similar to brandy) except it’s super strong and tasted like ass. According to the manufacturer, the original Unicum is no longer distributed in the US, having been replaced by Unicum Next (a sweeter, thinner-bodied drink with a more prominent citrus flavour), re-branded as “Zwack“.
The meat on the far right is horse meat. Delicious. Tastes like salami. The slices of meat in the middle are slices of beef tongue. Looks like it eh?
That’s a real pig…hanging up there.
Hello! I’m stuck in a pickle jar! Jars of pickled stuff. Lots of pickled stuff.
Fresh cheese!! Goat cheese and…I forgot the other one. It was effing fantastic!
Some cheese in chocolate. It’s supposed to be eaten cold. Good mix of sweet and savory.
Me with tons of meats and sausages. Sausages of all sizes. big. small. thin. thick.
I’m at a fun candy shop. I loved the red and the typography was awesome.
This chick is made from marzipan. Seriously.
Watching people make chocolate.
Hungary’s famous dessert wine. Too sweet for me and it came with an odd aftertaste.
Fabulous baked goods/breads. So good to munch on while walking around the city streets.
