I’ve heard of cat cafes popping up all around the world like the one Sabrina visited in Seoul so when she recommended playing with the cats at Catmosphere Cat Cafe in Chiang Mai, I knew I had to take a break from my nerdy IT work and visit.

I (easily) convinced my friend Jay to come since I had no idea where it was on a map except that it was a “bit of a walk” from the Nimman area where most of us were staying. I told him the cafe was called “Catmosphere Cafe” and his reply? “I’m going to go just because of how awesome the name is.”

The concept is easy & straight to the point: Snuggle and play with cute kitties all while enjoying a beverage and some snacks.

There’s a maximum number of people allowed inside at once – I believe it was 12-15 people so there was a small crowd huddled outside the door when we arrived.

As we were standing around for a minute, out popped one of the employees and asked if there was a party of two available. Everybody before us had came in groups of 3+ so we were able to enter right away! After washing and drying our hands in the sink located right outside, we left our shoes at the door and walked inside.

Catmosphere Cat Cafe had a decor theme of you guessed it…outer space (fun & funky) with a touch of Star Wars!

There were no chairs but rather cushions against the wall to sit and lean upon with small coffee tables and simple laminated menus. Around us were various shelves and nooks & krannies for them to sleep in as well as tall cat scratching posts.

We noticed that with 19 cats, about 3/4s were sleeping high up somewhere and the remaining were in some sort of slumber around us.

After sitting down and perusing the menu, we ordered matcha green tea lattes and some sweet & salty snacks (brownies and french fries). While waiting, we stared at the closest kitties around us.

This particular one – Yoda woke up and entertained the crowd for a bit. He was quite small and adorable to the max.

Yoda is like – can you please get me out of here?

There is a sign that clearly states, “If the cats are sleeping, please don’t disrupt them.” Lo and behold, a few minutes after we walked in, a trio of Asians proceeded to wake up two snoozing kitties around us and basically annoyed the crap out of them until they left their basket in seemingly grumpy moods. That also annoyed me. Le sigh – what can you do?

We stayed and cuddled for about an hour and afterwards, paid and left.

Overall, it was a great experience and perfect for a little break. The cafe is very very clean – there was no cat urine smell or excessive dander anywhere. I highly recommend it if you don’t have kitties at home to cuddle with!
